Best bbq brushes in the UK for a clean bbq experience reviewed and compared
This article was last updated on April 23rd, 2022 at 1:45 am
A barbecue wire brush solves a real problem; stuck on food can be really difficult to remove. Factor in the very best barbecue wire brushes only cost a few quid and are genuinely a useful piece of kit, every barbecue needs one in the barbecue tool set, it’s almost as vital as picking the best bbq tongs. A barbecue wire brush needs to be stiff, strong, and it’s handy to have a sharp scraper to remove the heaviest charred remains, but at the same time flexible enough to reach into the awkward spots in between the grills (that’s actually a hard balance as you read through this article by the way).
It should then clean up nicely itself, being rust free and ready for the next barbecue. I actually use it for my fish grill baskets too, clean them up a treat! So, I’ve reviewed my choice of the best barbecue wire brushes based on those criteria and brought them all together to compare build quality, material, usability, and prices.

What is bbq brush and how to pick the best one for you?
You need to decide what you need to clean. Is it hard to reach places or the straight grill plates? Beyond that, you’ll need to establish if you want long bristles with multiple heads so you can clean most of the grates enough as to not need to turn them over.
If you’re thinking hard to reach spots then you want to take a close look at the Amazon Basics 18-Inch 3-Sided Grill Brush and the Kona 360 Clean Grill Brush is pretty good at getting down the sides too as well as the hard to reach spots. The trade off is these are normally not as sturdy which is worth knowing…
By contrast, for raw power and value for money you won’t go far wrong with the QSUBFPYK Scraper Grill Brush or the Qomolo Grill Brush. It depends whether or not you want a scraper as to which one you would choose on a budget but if you don’t mind spending and just want the very best then you’ll end up with the Best Grill Brush 4-In-1 Head Design.
The best all rounder is the Kona but then I suppose that’s no surprise given it’s also the most expensive. It wouldn’t hurt to have one from each category to cover yourself but you’ll get by just fine with one or the other, it’s worth being aware of the types available to you before taking the plunge and buying.
A bbq brush isn’t far from a wire brush, the brush itself has the same steel bristles. It has however been adapted (or at least the best bbq brushes have been) to help clean up griddles and gratings as effectively as possible.
You normally get a brush one side with a scraper the other assuming you’re willing to pay a bit more than the absolute minimum. I’d highly recommend paying that bit more, especially when you compare the costs. The scraper really does help remove seared on black charred food very well. In fact you need to be careful not to dig at your gratings too hard!
Why should you clean your barbecue grill regularly?
At best an unclean grill looks unsightly, smells of old nasty fat residue, and will put you off your next bbq adventure. The nasty blackened char on the grill invariably will come off the next bbq if you don’t clean up! Not nice! You’ll end up searching for how to clean a dirty and rusty old bbq 😀
On the serious side of the spectrum an unclean grill can and will turn out to be the breeding ground for insects. You’ll attract mice, rats, and depending on where you live, almost certainly foxes as well. The smell carries and if you train these critters to come, it’s a tough reversal process. That’s where sensible maintenance, cleaning, and crucially a bbq wire brush comes in!
The best bbq brushes in the UK reviewed
1. Triangle Metal BBQ Grill Cleaning Brush
Specification: Overall length: 23.6 inch, Handle Material: PP, Bristle Material: Steel Wire
When I reviewed this bbq brush a couple of year ago it was beginning to become popular. It now has over 1500 positive reviews online and has become one of the most popular bbq cleaning brushes online in the UK. I really quite like this brush because the 18” long handle will make sure that you can comfortably clean without the risk of getting burnt. Some brushes by comparison have no where near this length of handle.
You’ll notice just how ‘full’ it looks. There are steel bristles at all angles which is absolutely ideal to ensure you can reach almost all the way around your grill rods. Talking of the bristles, I’ve had some practically disintegrate in the heat of a bbq – this holds up much better if you like to clean the grill while it’s hot. There’s no problem (assuming you have a gas bbq) to heat up to full blast, leave for a bit and then simply scrape off any remaining nasty black bits.
The good news doesn’t end there either, surprisingly (at least to me anyway) the plastic handle is pretty sturdy and can tolerate a fair old bit of heat. given the price points gone up, I don’t rate it best but I do really quite like this bbq brush. After using it for ages I found a good way to keep it clean is simply sling it in the dishwasher. I was hesitant at first (dishwashers have a habit of killing this type of plastic) but I was wrong, it held up better than I expected
Pros:
- Safe against heat due to long handles
- Solid construction to ensure long-term use
- Suitable for all types of grills
- Three brushes in one to ensure complete cleaning
- 5-star rating from users
Cons:
- Not as cheap as it used to be
2. QSUBFPYK Scraper Grill Brush
Specification: Overall length: 17.4 inches, Handle Material: Stainless steel, Bristle Material: Steel Wire
The QSUBFPYK Scraper Grill Brush is a direct comparison for the Triangle Metal BBQ Grill Cleaning Brush. They are practically the same surface area of cleaning brush with one important exception – the QSUBFPYK Scraper Grill Brush has the all important scraper attached to it as well. The other thing is the shape of the cleaning head – this is much wider than it is longer – or it used to be, I think they realised opting for the rectangular shape was better for cleaning and I agree so full marks for changing the design over these last couple of years. While the previous review works great, if there’s something really stuck, then the scraper assists considerably. If you’re the type of person that doesn’t mind burning the grill off first then a scraper isn’t exactly necessary but you’ll struggle without if you’re one of those people that likes to clean the grill when it all cools down!
I prefer the handle too. That’s stainless steel as opposed to plastic. Now I know we discussed that the handle was pretty good on the last model but when you compare the reliability of steel and plastic it’s no surprise I think this is a vastly superior bbq cleaning brush…and with the same handle length this one too can clean your grill hot without the need for bbq gloves!
However, you do get that same old problem – you get what you pay for! This was about 50% more expensive two years ago and it’s relatively still about the same. But, in fairness instead of having an eye at the end they decided to incorporate a beer opener 😀 Top marks for that and as far as I am concerned this is the best bbq cleaning brush and most rounded, well designed product.
If you do a bit of research you’ll be hard pressed to find many negative reviews on this cleaning brush. The manufacturer claims metal shards don’t break off when cleaning – I would suggest you give the grill a good wipe over after just for precautions sake, it’s been my experience that this type of wire brush will always have broken metal shards by design. This is not a flaw in the product, it is what it is. Just take a look at your wire brushes in the tool box, you’ll see what I mean!
Pros:
- Stainless steel construction
- Well designed
- Beer opener is the cherry on top
- Actually works well
- Scraper makes cleaning all the easier
- Long handle makes cleaning a hot grill easy
Cons:
- On the expensive side
3. Amazon Basics 18-Inch 3-Sided Grill Brush
Specification: Overall length: 18.2 inches, Handle Material: PP, Bristle Material: Stainless Steel Bristles
This brush is slightly different in actual use when compared to the other reviews so far, it’s more designed for hard to reach spots which it does very well, rather than the easy straight grill plates. If you’re buying this for the straight bits there’s much better options, it’s hard to get real purchase without the shaft bending.
Good old Amazon basics, never the best in my opinion but they always offer solid value for money and a reliable product. The Amazon Basics 18-Inch 3-Sided Grill Brush is no exception to this. They actually have a shorter 12 inch version which I think is better for cleaning your grill cold, the 18 inch is much better for cleaning a hot grill when compared and saves your hands from getting burnt, no question on that! So how is it in action?
Well as you’d expect it’s a bit bendy, you can see from the design it would have to be that way. The interesting thing though, it’s very useful for squeezing into the hard reach spaces, conversely it falls down if you’re really trying to scrub off some nasty stuck on bits, so that bend is a bit of a double edged sword. If you’ve got a grill where it’s hard to reach in areas with a warming tray for example, this is a good bit of kit. So it’s got it’s uses despite being a bit flexible.
The length is huge, it actually lends itself to cleaning the grill off after you give it a blast of heat or flames, this is probably when it’s most effective, just like all the designs that don’t incorporate a scraper for that matter.
It was much cheaper when I compare it to 2019, but everything has shot up in price, not just a wire bbq cleaning brush!
Pros:
- Amazon customer service reliability
- Quality trustable stainless steel
- Pretty effective at cleaning the grill
- Nice comfortable handle
Cons:
- A bit bendy
- Price is up considerably on two years ago
4. Kona 360 Clean Grill Brush
Specification: Overall length: 18 inches ,Handle Material: PP, Bristle Material: Stainless Steel Hard-Wired
My pick for the best bbq brush is the Kona 360° Clean Grill Brush. Whilst I note earlier I mention I would really like having a scraper, the design on this grill brush is second to none. It cleans up my odd shaped bbq fish baskets with zero fuss too.
The triple head and fine bristles make cleaning both hard to reach areas and straight grill sections a doddle. It doesn’t matter if you clean hot or cold with this brush, but that said, hot is that bit easier. The balance of flexibility allows you to get deep into the grooves too which helps to keep your next bbq experience completely clean.
One very nice touch on this grill brush is the finger friction points moulded into the plastic handle. It practically guarantees no slipping if you decide not to use bbq gloves. Like all the other designs we’ve compared, this is roughly 18 inches long as well but sets itself apart from the other options with a seriously long warranty – 5 years in fact – so it deserves it’s spot as the best bbq cleaning brush. With over 5000 5 star reviews, it’s a trusted brand and that certainly backs up my line of thinking.
As usual the biggest complaint is bristles coming off, it’s the nature of the beast when using a wire brush I am afraid, make sure you wipe down the grill thoroughly after. You’re better off with this brush than without!
Pros:
- Safe for porcelain and ceramic grill plates
- Best cleaning brush
- Sensibly priced
- Triple head makes cleaning hard to reach areas possible
- Sturdy shaft to get decent grip without bending
Cons:
- Price has increased much over the last couple of years like all grill brushes.
- It’ll lose a few bristles.
5. Qomolo Grill Brush
Specification: Overall length: 16 inches, Handle Material: PP, Bristle Material: Steel Wire
The Qomolo Grill Brush represents pretty decent value for money when compared to the other selections so far but differs slightly in length at 16 inches. The shorter handle gives it a bit of a firmer shaft when applying plenty of pressure to get the stubborn bits off. It’s actually a pretty good design, and is very similar to the first review when compared, it’s just that little bit smaller.
Why I like this one though, the angle of the head and the corresponding protruding bristles give a good clean down the sides of the grates leaving a much nicer finish. The handle helps too, it’s a good shape, well designed to get good purchase when having a scrub.
The manufacturer claims the bristles are really bedded in hard. I would say exercise caution. As we’ve mentioned twice already if you’ve read the review from the start, a wire brush will inherently shed it’s bristles when you apply excessive pressure and theres not much we can do about it! That applies to all brushes for the bbq, some are just better than others!
Pros:
- Excellent value for money
- Quality stainless steel
- Very effective at getting down the sides of grill plates
- Nice strong handle
Cons:
- Bristles will detach at some point
6. iRegro Grill Brush BBQ Grill Brush
Specification: Overall length: 18 inches, Handle Material: PP, Bristle Material: Steel Wire
The iRegro Grill Brush BBQ Grill Brush and the Qomolo Grill Brush are practically identical when compared directly. This is one of those times where you’re simply going to check the price of both before making the decision. At the moment this is on special offer so if you ge tin quick it might be cheaper than the Qomolo Grill Brush. However, at standard prices it’s more expensive and so I have given the best price grill brush to Qomolo Grill Brush. I’ll keep an eye on that situation though and update you accordingly if anything changes.
It has the same good handle, the same three pronged cleaning attack, same length, same everything 😀 You might be forgiven for questioning if they were made in the same factory with a different label stuck on 😀
The only noticeable difference is the way the shaft is secured. The iRegro is slightly tighter looking but it doesn’t affect the performance, they have practically exactly the same rating all over the internet.
Pros:
- Good value for money
- Made from stainless steel
- Very effective at getting down the sides of grill plates
- Nice strong handle
Cons:
- The Qomolo Grill Brush slightly cheaper at the moment.
7. Wimaha BBQ Grill Brush,Barbecue Brush with Scraper
Specification: Overall length: 18 inches ,Handle Material: PP, Bristle Material: Stainless-Steel Bristle
Next up is the Wimaha BBQ Grill Brush,Barbecue Brush with Scraper. This is another brush very similar in design to the iRegro but comes with the additional scraper. This is the cheapest scraper version of the bbq brush in this review but don’t be put off, it’s a pretty decent bit of kit.
At 18 inches long it’s a pretty standard and familiar size if you’ve been following the reviews. It also has decent quality stainless steel and the sellers haven’t tried to suggest bristles won’t fall off in their review which I like, a bit of honesty goes a long way. The reviews around the internet reflect that too. They are pretty decent
The bristles are very sharp / sturdy and this shifts grime no problem at all, in fact they are rough to the point I am not sure I’d use this all the time, only when the grill was plastered! You can push in pretty firmly and get round the sides of the grates nicely, it’s actually pretty difficult to fault this when comparing the prices at the moment!
Pros:
- Excellent value for money
- Stainless steel bristles with comfortable handle
- Good angle on the scraper for cleaning
- Great reviews
Cons:
- Hard to fault this scraper at the price point
8. Best Grill Brush 4-In-1 Head Design
Specification: Overall length: 18 inches, Handle Material: PP, Bristle Material: Stainless-Steel Bristle
This is another one of the brushes in the 18 inch range. The Best Grill Brush 4-In-1 Head Design is presumptuously named but probably is the actual best bbq brush if you take the price out of the equation and has the highest ratings as well. If you’re heavily into bbq’s and want something sturdy and reliable this is the pick. You can literally use this grill brush two handed and force the grease. It won’t bend or break on you, thanks to the woven stainless steel construction. You can use this on tough clean up jobs like cast iron grates. It cleans smaller grates from a charcoal bbq effortlessly.
This is a unique bbq brush. I’m sure the competitors will catch up but for now, this is the only 4 headed cleaning brush which gives the extra strength to use two hands and wider base for a quicker clean. The hook on the handle is handy too, it allows you to hang it up in more places as well as having a solid feel in the hand. The bristles are plenty long enough to get a good clean around the gratings as well as the quality of the bristle; you don’t see too many complaining about them broken.
You really do get what you pay for, if you are willing to spend the extra then this is the best tool for the job, no question.
Pros:
- Best bbq cleaning brush
- Industrial grade material and design
- 4 cleaning heads
- Highest rated product online
Cons:
- Price is right up there
- Hard to find in stock due to the demand
9. PePeng 18 Triangle Metal BBQ Grill Cleaning Brush
Specification: Overall length: 18 inches, Handle Material: PP, Bristle Material: Stainless-Steel Bristle
If you’ve followed the review to this point you will be forgiven for assuming the PePeng 18″ Triangle Metal BBQ Grill Cleaning Brush almost identical to the first pick, the Triangle Metal BBQ Grill Cleaning Brush. They even use the same generic pictures! So, this doesn’t make it a sub par product by any means, it just makes far more sense to pick the cheapest given they are exactly the same.
They are almost certainly going to be from the same factory so no problems taking the cheaper option. You’re protected by Amazon’s refund policies too if the seller disappears, however given this seller has more reviews it’s reasonable to think he’s the better bet anyway – a result then since he’s price better and seeing as delivery si next day or the day after if you have prime, buy with confidence!
Pros:
- Same as the Triangle Metal BBQ Grill Cleaning Brush but cheaper
- Decent stainless steel
- 3 cleaning heads
- Highly rated with bbq enthusiasts
- Good value
Cons:
- Not the best but ok all rounder

Bbq cleaning brush buying FAQs
Unsurprisingly there’s a few pretty obvious questions that’ll help you in picking the best bbq cleaning brush. You’ll find there’s two types of brush as we touched on earlier, one with flex, and the other for straight grate cleaning which are much more solid. If you understand how to clean your bbq with a brush that’s safe then it’ll be easier to make your choice. Of course it’l be good if you read through the review to find out if there’s a brush that’ll meet your requirements without necessarily going for the most expensive and best. After all, that’s the whole point of this guide to connect you with the right tool!
How to clean your bbq grill with a bbq brush effectively?
The easiest way without question to clean your bbq be it charcoal or gas is to turn up the heat or flame first. This helps to remove and break off any stuck charred remains. Loosening the most stuck on food from your grill works in your favour two fold. First there’s far less elbow grease involved. Second, and to me most crucially is less use of a course bristle on your ceramic, or porcelain plates. Now if you’ve got a cheaper bbq you might not be al that concerned but it’s certainly going to cause fair wear and tear over time, much like the use of a scouring pad on your non stick pans!
Are there any brushes where bristles won’t detach?
It doesn’t matter how good you go, even the best bbq cleaning brush like the Best Grill Brush 4-In-1 Head Design, they will eventually fail and break off shards of metal into the bbq. Make sure you give the grates a wipe over with a wet cloth each time and you’ll protect yourself and your family from any harm.
The cheaper version shed bristles easier still. So be weary and vigilant. You’l find a fair number of the negative reviews pertain to this issue – unfortunately for them it’s a shock and a lack of knowledge – all wire brushes fail eventually.
What’s the cheapest bbq cleaning brush?
At the moment there are two good options for a reasonable quality cheap bbq cleaning brush. You’ll want to look at the PePeng 18 Triangle Metal BBQ Grill Cleaning Brush if you don’t want a scraper. If you do want one then you’ll be better to look at the Wimaha BBQ Grill Brush,Barbecue Brush with Scraper.
With all this knowledge you’re certain to be able to find yourself the right bbq brush.
